We’re not above taking shots at Nick Cage’s career. I used to enjoy his movies. I just shut off my brain and went along with it. It seemed like he was on the right track with “Adaptation.” I thought he was finally going to try to be serious. No such luck. He still takes on roles like “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice.” This isn’t going to be all about Nick. He’s just a good lead in to talking about Ghost Rider.
First, a warning. Rob is a Ghost Rider apologist. He is a true believer and it makes me have to approach this topic. Ghost Rider is one of Rob’s favorite characters of ALL TIME. When a guy has read thousands of comics, and you attack his favorite characters, you are in dangerous territory. It’s a complex mix of love for the character, their story, the history, the artists who drew the character, and how you relate to the character. That being said …
Ghost Rider sucks.
He’s a possessed Evel Knievel. I will leave the back story to Mr. Wiki. Basically, he’s a possessed stunt guy who lets a demon control him so that he can “punish the bad guys.” It’s not like he was a biker or the type of guy who would deal with the devil. He’s an entertainer. It’d be like giving Tony Hawk supernatural powers. If that’s not enough, he was such a terrible character that Marvel quickly made some other guy Ghost Rider. That’s like taking a turd and replacing it with a fresher turd.
In conclusion Rob, we’re all friends here. We love you, and we’re here to have an intervention. Put the Ghost Rider comics down. It’s a bad book and it’s ruining your comic credibility. There are many good comics out there. It’s time to find a new series. Let go of the past. You and Ghost Rider had a good run. It’s time to stop hurting. We’re here for you.
Go read Planetary and let the healing begin.
