Zack comments on Flash being passed out. I‘m sure Rob, after all these years of seeing me passed out in odd locations, would react in the same fashion. I wasn’t drunk in these instances. In my youth, I slept in random places quite often. You could find me on park bench, on floors, under desks, hair salon chairs, and school playgrounds. This was probably not the safest thing to do, but I was young. I even passed out on a park bench as an excuse to be gone while planning a surprise party.
I think we should institute nap-time at work. Give everyone that wants to take a nap 30-40 minutes right after lunch. That would be the best job in the world. People would be relaxed, well-rested and energized. Some of the greatest minds in the world took naps in the middle of the day. Who are we to say otherwise?
I’ve made myself tired talking about all this wonderful sleep. I think I will take a nap before class.
Flash can’t work alone, which is probably for the best. Flash should not be allowed to have the run of the store. Zack would come in to the store and it would resemble Lord Of The Flies.
I checked out “The Marvelous Land of Oz” and “Ozma of OZ” from my school’s Library. Yes, my college library carries graphic novels and trade paperbacks. It’s a fairly good collection for a small satellite campus in the middle of Kansas.
I can’t wait to dive into reading these two beautiful trades. Skottie Young does great illustrations. He has created an Oz that’s as rich of a world I could imagine. His work is fun to look at, because it has action and movement in the simplest of gestures.
I have liked Young’s work since I found out about him in 2003. His work gets better and better. He has developed his own style… a style that is accessible and adaptable to cover different types of tales. Be sure to check out his work on his site and in the comics he draws.
We made it back from Kansas safe and sound. We had a good flight and smooth flying all the way. It’s nice to be home, but we already miss people.
I started reading “Preacher” and so far so good. I am going to finish it before I pass judgment on it. I know I am “behind the times” in reading it so late. Sometimes you don’t get around to reading everything you want to right away. I will give a full review when I’m finished. (Which should be on Friday.)
Even when he’s off the clock he’s still at the store. Not that I blame him, if I worked at a comic store I would be there on my day off. I enjoy being around comics. I have spent hours wandering around stores. (I buy stuff; I’m not a “grazer”.) There is a subtext to this, and it’s that I shop in good stores.
I have been in SCARY comic stores. Stores I was afraid I would end up needing Bruce Willis and a katana to save me. Comic collectors know what I mean. The store where the only light is a couple of lamps spread around the store, and you’re trapped in a mine of long boxes. I’m not saying you can’t find good stuff in these stores. These stores keep the rare gems to boots your collection. When I say gems I mean you must dig them out from the dark damp basement, and hope that the gem is still pure. To continue the mine metaphor, you walk out of those stores blinded by the sun’s radiant glory wondering how long you were down there. It’s worth it but I wouldn’t make it a point to frequent these stores.
I have found some great stores to go to in my day. In Kansas I go to Prairie Dog Comics. It’s well lit and has tons of space. It has a good back stock of issues and some high-end collectable issues. In Massachusetts, Rob and I like going to Comically Speaking, it’s big and has a great selection. It has a tall ceiling that gives you ample space. If you are action figure collector it’s also great on that front. These two I recommend if you are on the hunt for the issues that evade you. If you can’t find it there, it’s time to go mining.
Well it’s Monday and we’re all still here. I guess we’ll have to wait and see if the Mayans get it right.
I am starting summer classes today, so I am going to keep this short. We are winding down on the brackets and looking forward to seeing what people come up with. Rob is also looking into going to Southcoast Toy & Comic Show. Plan on going there and supporting the troops.
