To Rob: The nineties called and they want to teach you how to use email. We’re running a little late this evening, because Rob can’t work that crazy email thing that’s been around for about 20 years.
I’ve never had the guts to test if I could fly. In all actuality you never really want to test for most super powers. Test if you can breath under water and you drown, try flying and you fall to your death, or see if you’re bulletproof and get a trip to the emergency room. So until I face a truly life-threatening experience, I may never know. (Well I know I’m not bullet-proof. If the fine edge of a sheet of paper can cut me, I don’t want to see what a bullet can do.) This doesn’t mean I don’t consider throwing Rob off tall buildings to test if he can fly.
I’m doing something I don’t do very often. I am writing the blog the night before I post the stip. I’m doing this mostly on the bet that Rob won’t get me the strip until late on tomorrow/Monday. I don’t want to be scrambling my thoughts together at the last second, so I am writing this now.
That being said, I am not sure where to begin. Rob gave a somewhat confusing account of his time spent at Super Megafest. I’m not sure if it’s his excitement getting in the way of his thinking or if it’s his hazy recollections after a booze-filled after party. Either way, it sounds like it went really well. It must have been worth it, because we gained some new fans on Facebook.
If you just got back from the con, picked up our business card off your shiny stack of new comics, and decided to check us out, welcome. If you haven’t liked us on Facebook yet, be sure to do so. We also have a twitter, @5_n_Dime_Comics, if that is your preferred way of getting your digital information. We’re glad you’re checking us out.
P. S. A special thanks to our henchmen for making it a successful con.
Seems like an origin you can only find in the word of comics. There is more Edgar to come..
We have been getting ready for the comic convention this weekend. Rob has been getting prepared for the convention. Details will follow during the week once Rob and I hammer out more details this afternoon.
I just ordered an iPhone 4S. I took on an extra job to pay for it, and not a moment too soon. My current phone is dying a slow and painful death. It has survived for 3 years, and until the past 5 months has never had a problem. I have really enjoyed my phone while it was working. Also, I never realized how much Rob and I rely on my phone until it started to go bad. We used to talk on my 2o minute drive from class or his lunch break about every other day. We’d plan strips, talk comics, business plans, or just chat, now we are trying to cram all of that information into the four minutes that my phone will last while I make a call. It’s really put an extra stress on trying to make this comic. We already work to overcome the distance, multiple jobs, miscommunications, and many other things. I hate adding an unreliable phone into the mix.
Rob has been really good about it, and has tried to work around it with me. However, I think the stress is starting to get to him. He has started talking to my voicemail as if it is the phone. He started asking it why it’s trying to ruin us and threatening its life. I’m not saying it’s driven Rob crazy, but I think he’s throwing darts at pictures of my phone like an old 80’s movie villain. Thank goodness the new phone will be here soon, but for now we wait…
Happy Veterans Day to all vets who read our strip. I tend not to be overly personal on here, but I spent 6 years in the Marine Corps. I can’t speak for all of us, but I appreciate all the thanks and love we receive. If you know a vet that spent time in Vietnam be sure to give them a special thanks. It’s a hard thing to fight a war, but it’s a harder thing to come back to hatred. So please thank them in particular.
Also, Happy Birthday to my fellow Marines. I know I’m a day late, but be sure to tell any jarhead you know Happy Birthday. Semper Fi.
We welcome Edgar back, and just in time for a the weather to change. We are going to unveil his storied and tragic past. Be sure to check back with us to see who he is, and how he came to be. If you are new to Five and Dime or forgot who Edgar was be sure to check out his introduction.
We added a new menu called “Friends” this week. We appreciate the support we’ve gotten from fellow artists and friends, so we wanted to return the favor. Go there and check out some cool sites, and kill some time.
We missed Monday, but with good cause we spent the morning at the Bank and we now have a business account. Now we can do all sorts of fun things. We can now put ads on our pages, sell prints, sell merchandise, and many other good things. I guess we’re one step closer to making this whole “web-comic thing” work for us. We will placing ads on the site within the next week. If you are one of our faithful fans that check us two or three times a day and the site seems messed up, it’s because I am working on it. We’ll still be putting the strips up, but bear with us as we get it all figured out. We will be making a few more additions rolling out slowly over the next few weeks. Thanks again for all your support. Hopefully the upcoming year 2 of Five and Dime will be full of laughs, and adventure.
For those that don’t know DC is doing a “reboot” or attempting to wipe that slate clean. I can understand the need to clean up a universe where people die and comeback and exist in different dimensions. It’s messy business getting into time travel and parallel earths.
That being said, in NO universe should Superman’s costume be changed. I don’t like the changes, I don’t think it needed to be changed and if you want to change it why go to something so poorly designed. It’s not Superman’s clothes that are bringing his title’s sales down. It’s poor writing. There I said it. Superman hasn’t been relevant in almost 40 years. It’s not his fault. In the 60’s and 70’s Batman was “Bat-Dancing” his way into oblivion. Frank Miller came along and faster than you can say, “Holy Dark Knight, Batman!” Batman was great again. Superman has never gotten that chance. DC won’t venture to far with him. The craziest thing they do with Supes is CHANGE HIS COSTUME! It hasn’t work the past 10 times they tried to change his outfit. What makes them think, “Gee, if we redesign his costume this time sales will go up.”? How about this time they tell a new story. Give Superman a chance to show how amazing he can be. Just do it with him in the same costume.
After Wednesday I feel much more put together. Sometimes you need time to digest books, or movies. Dresden always takes me a little bit to digest it. Now it’s time to get back to reading Game of Thrones
Rob has been good to tolerate me for so long, I have never put a bit in his mouth and rode him like a horse. I have, however, made him carry me places piggyback style. He’s a good friend.
I just signed up and decided to try google+. It should be interesting, to give it a try. We’d like to here what you think of google+, if you get it.
We’re a little late today. Rob just got back from cape cod, and sent me the strip. I’d be mad, but he got all the strips for this next week done. Rob worked his nubby fingers to the bone. That puts me in the hot seat to come up with some new scripts, but I enjoy the challenge.
I saw Captain America and I liked it. It was good, but I didn’t think it was as good as Thor. It was too much of a war movie for me. I don’t really like war movies, but that’s just a personal preference. It’s not a reason to skip the movie. Chris Evans does as good a job as he’s ever done in a move. (Except Sunshine, he was great in Sunshine.) Tommy Lee Jones was great, and I can never say enough good things about Hugo Weaving. As far as comic movies go it’s above average, but not an A+. Go watch it, to have a good movie experience.
