It was in the early 00’s and I was at the Savannah College of Art and Design. I went to college to learn to draw comic books. I met Rob there, I learned new artistic skills, and discovered amazing comics. I found a comic called Battle Chasers. I had never read a comic like this before. At the time, it was one of the few successful fantasy comics ever made. Its artwork was stunning. The writing was solid. The characters were mysterious and interesting. Joe Madureira; put so much detail and craftsmanship into the work it was mind-blowing. However, the gaps in issues being released continued to grow. The wait for an issue was six to eight months. He hit issue nine and that was the end. It stopped. Just like Firefly, no conclusion, no cliffhanger, just stopped. I had so many questions that needed answered. I was left with the though of what might have been. Joe Mad left comics soon after the end of Battle Chasers. He went to work on designs for video game companies. He did the artwork for the game Outsiders and the game looked amazing. He came back to comics a few years ago to work on Ultimates 3 with Jeph Loeb. He is now working on Avenging Spiderman. His art is still amazing and I am glad he is back in comics so I can once again enjoy his artwork. I don’t ever expect to see the end of Battle Chasers, but if I could afford Joe Mad and the production costs I would pay to have it finished myself. I just want to know where it was going and what could have been. It is an unfinished symphony and it song still haunts me.
