Edgar’s a dirty birdie. He is always fun to write.
I decided to get back in shape after a long hiatus and gaining several pounds. I stopped working out as soon as I got out of the Marine Corps and it has caught up with me. I enjoy working out, but I am surprised at how sore a body can get. I feel like every muscle in my body must hate me right now.
I imagine it’s how Cyclops must feel after fighting someone like Juggernaut. It must be hard to be a super hero if you don’t have some sort of healing factor. Scott is bad enough to imagine. Batman must wake up some mornings hating life. So I give you the, “Top five heroes that have no healing factor that must wake up sore every morning”. (Things I am considering: no healing factor, strength of Villains they face, how effective they are in battle, and effort it takes to use their power.)
1) Batman
2) Cyclops
3) Spider-man
4) Green Arrow
5) John Constantine

This the the last part of our Edgar story. He will be back, sometime soon. It is getting colder and Flash will need a jacket.
Most of my classes were cancelled today for an inservice. Next week there is no school due to Thanksgiving. So, I have a long vacation ahead of me. Well, a vacation for me. I still have to go to work and work on Five and Dime. So not much of a vacation, but still it will be good. I think I’m going to rent a couple of PS3 games I’ve been wanting to try. I will get some much needed drawing done. Other than that I think I will just enjoy not having a bunch of other things to do.
Rob will be at the Super Megafest so be sure to swing by for a visit. If you follow us on facebook, which you should, you will see the banner that is going to be behind the booth. I am very excited to see how it all turns out. This is one of the few times I hate that Rob and I are in different states. I would really like to be at the con. I wish Him and our henchmen the best of luck. Hopefully we can talk a bunch of people into adding a new bookmark to their browser.
The plot has thickened like pea soup in January. Stay tuned for the conclusion of Edgar’s Origin this Friday.
Rob and briefly discussed how Edgar is my punchline release valve. See Rob and I decided many moons ago that we wanted the strip to be “Family-Friendly”. A decision that sometimes limits my natural inclination to swear. It’s not that I mind, but edgar give me the chance to be a little more aggressive with the punchlines. Sometimes a mildly dirty punchline gets the point across. I think you can be funny without swearing, but it helps when you can tip-toe across the line every once and awhile.
If you go to Super Megafest this weekend be looking for the Five and Dime banner. I hear we will have a small army there to support us. I prefer to think of them as minions, but Rob doesn’t think I should start calling our friends minions. Especially when they help us out for free. (Don’t feel too bad for them. They are all riding our coat-tails hoping for us to be successful so they can have a job.) So I will go with “Henchmen”. So look for Rob and our henchmen to be promoting the good word.
Seems like an origin you can only find in the word of comics. There is more Edgar to come..
We have been getting ready for the comic convention this weekend. Rob has been getting prepared for the convention. Details will follow during the week once Rob and I hammer out more details this afternoon.
I just ordered an iPhone 4S. I took on an extra job to pay for it, and not a moment too soon. My current phone is dying a slow and painful death. It has survived for 3 years, and until the past 5 months has never had a problem. I have really enjoyed my phone while it was working. Also, I never realized how much Rob and I rely on my phone until it started to go bad. We used to talk on my 2o minute drive from class or his lunch break about every other day. We’d plan strips, talk comics, business plans, or just chat, now we are trying to cram all of that information into the four minutes that my phone will last while I make a call. It’s really put an extra stress on trying to make this comic. We already work to overcome the distance, multiple jobs, miscommunications, and many other things. I hate adding an unreliable phone into the mix.
Rob has been really good about it, and has tried to work around it with me. However, I think the stress is starting to get to him. He has started talking to my voicemail as if it is the phone. He started asking it why it’s trying to ruin us and threatening its life. I’m not saying it’s driven Rob crazy, but I think he’s throwing darts at pictures of my phone like an old 80’s movie villain. Thank goodness the new phone will be here soon, but for now we wait…
Happy Veterans Day to all vets who read our strip. I tend not to be overly personal on here, but I spent 6 years in the Marine Corps. I can’t speak for all of us, but I appreciate all the thanks and love we receive. If you know a vet that spent time in Vietnam be sure to give them a special thanks. It’s a hard thing to fight a war, but it’s a harder thing to come back to hatred. So please thank them in particular.
Also, Happy Birthday to my fellow Marines. I know I’m a day late, but be sure to tell any jarhead you know Happy Birthday. Semper Fi.
We welcome Edgar back, and just in time for a the weather to change. We are going to unveil his storied and tragic past. Be sure to check back with us to see who he is, and how he came to be. If you are new to Five and Dime or forgot who Edgar was be sure to check out his introduction.
We added a new menu called “Friends” this week. We appreciate the support we’ve gotten from fellow artists and friends, so we wanted to return the favor. Go there and check out some cool sites, and kill some time.
