I know several people who are anime geeks. They tend to get a bad rap for being real weirdos, even in the geek world. Don’t get me wrong… there are some extreme geeks on this level. When you can understand Japanese because of watching anime, you’ve really gone too far.
In conclusion, we are all geeks. I assume most of you are anyway. We need to stick together and support other geek cultures. Go out there, try new levels, and develop new passions. There is a place for every geek.
Thanks for reading for these past two weeks, and being a “web comic geek.”

Surprise ending!
I am very, very close to being an anime geek. I love anime cartoons, and I really love Cowboy Bebop. Cowboy Bebop is what got me hooked on anime. After watching several series, I started getting into the toys and models (I bought a couple Gundam models). I also started listening to a couple of anime series’ soundtracks. Then, I started reading manga as well. Basically, I have given the anime geek level a good amount of attention. I’m not quite to the point of being a geek on this level, but I can see how easy it is to reach that point. It’s my dark little secret of the geek world.
I don’t make resolutions. If I have to wait until a new year to make a change, I’ve already failed. I am not very good at giving advice that doesn’t deal with comic books. However, if I were to give advice, this is what I’d say. You should be able to start doing something challenging at any point during the year. It’s not going to get any easier by waiting for a mythical new year. I think setting a goal date is much more important. For example, “I will read the entire Dresden series before May first.” The ending gives you focus. Zack is the kind of guy that makes tons of resolutions and is done in a week or two. He has no real goals set. He wants to see change as quickly as possible. I hope everyone out there that started a resolution is still going strong. Don’t be like Zack. Stick to your plan.
I’m doing something I don’t do very often. I am writing the blog the night before I post the stip. I’m doing this mostly on the bet that Rob won’t get me the strip until late on tomorrow/Monday. I don’t want to be scrambling my thoughts together at the last second, so I am writing this now.
That being said, I am not sure where to begin. Rob gave a somewhat confusing account of his time spent at Super Megafest. I’m not sure if it’s his excitement getting in the way of his thinking or if it’s his hazy recollections after a booze-filled after party. Either way, it sounds like it went really well. It must have been worth it, because we gained some new fans on Facebook.
If you just got back from the con, picked up our business card off your shiny stack of new comics, and decided to check us out, welcome. If you haven’t liked us on Facebook yet, be sure to do so. We also have a twitter, @5_n_Dime_Comics, if that is your preferred way of getting your digital information. We’re glad you’re checking us out.
P. S. A special thanks to our henchmen for making it a successful con.
So, it’s getting late. I have been writing a java program all evening. The computer screen is starting to burn my eyes. So this is going to be super short. Rob will be angry with me, but it’s okay. School work is important. Night all, I’m outta here.
Today’s post is brought to you today by the letters J, H and the number 1. It’s worth a moment of everyone’s time to remember Jim Henson. It would have been his 75th birthday today. If I could meet anyone alive or dead, he would be in my top 5. Few can weave creativity, humor and education in to so brilliant a tapestry. So if you had any sort of childhood, give some love.
I need to clarify today’s strip a little bit. I don’t hate manga. I read several, as a matter of fact. I like the artwork and storytelling. The strip was mostly for the chance to make sloth look foolish. I will cover manga sometime in a lengthy discussion is warranted. It is a topic worth devoting an arc to sometime. Then I will have the time to get into my thoughts on anime and manga geeks. Besides, it’s Friday folks go have a good weekend.
P.S. Started reading a new comic: American Vampire. So far, so good.

I am bad to play Monopoly with. How does that relate to today’s strip you might ask? Well, I tend to devolve the game to the point where I play with the pewter figurines. I’m bad enough with regular Monopoly. Heaven help you if I have the themed-based Monopoly version. If I start to lose interest I make things happen with the figures not being played with. My imagination sometimes spills over into the game. It doesn’t happen all the time, but sometimes the boot stomps down on a hotel. Or the Scottie dog robs a bank. Sometimes games are more fun without rules.
This would be a hard fought battle. Hawkeye Vs. Bullseye has been a discussion between Rob and I for some time now. It really was a close call, but having a network of metal encasing most of your vital organs gives you an edge over a vanilla human. Even if the human is very gifted and very deadly. Hawkeye is one of my avenger favorites. It takes talent to be as good as Hawkeye, and you have to give him credit. It would just be too hard for him to kill Bullseye. Bullseye has been nearly killed on more occasions than I can count. He keeps coming back. People like Deadpool and Wolverine have had a hard time with him. Again it was a close call, but we have to give it to Bullseye.
Side Note: Sloth would also lose to Dazzler, Electro, Dr. Light or anyone holding a flashlight.
I really don’t know why he thinks any woman would want him. I have to give it to him though; he has more faux confidence than Zack. Sloth is handsome in his own eyes, that’s what counts, right? Right?
Anyway, on our trip to San Francisco, I got to go visit a Comic Art Gallery. It was amazing. They were having an exhibit on Green Lantern to coincide with the movie. It chronicled the history of the GL from Alan Scott to modern day Hal Jordan. The highlight was seeing the original inks of the “Snowbirds Don’t Fly” cover from the Green Lantern & Green arrow crossover. For those that don’t know, GL/GA was revolutionary for the time. They used the pairing of both characters to cover important social topics of the time. The Cover is one of the first time the comic book industry dealt with drug addiction within it’s own ranks. Speedy was Green Arrow’s sidekick, like Robin is to Batman. Speedy got addicted to heroin. The cover has him in the foreground holding his arm, and drug paraphernalia on the table in front of him. The inked cover was a work of art. There is no other way to describe it. Comic books illustrations are art, and I would take Jack Kirby over Van Gogh any day.
The Cover was stunning. The whole gallery was stunning. There are many things I want to say about the experience, so I will break it up into a couple of posts. Monday I will cover getting to see inks done by Berkley Breathed.
